Cooper has been doing well. We were able to get him to relax a lot yesterday and today. The first night there was not much resting, he was too happy to be home.We have been doing a few bandage changes, there seemed to be a lot of drainage. He is getting around well, turns out I did not have to worry about the stairs. We put his cone on last night at 230 , he was licking , and he had a hard time getting comfortable after that. I think he was frustrated, so he jumped upon the bed. He seemed a little nervous about getting down, but he did it. The only thing that concerns me, is he is not peeing much. He only went once yesterday, 830 at night, and hasn’t gone at all today.
we just did a fresh bandage change, he wasn’t leaking fluid as we were changing it as he has been previously. Anyone have any input about keeping the bandage on vs not wearing one? Not sure what is best
cooper has also been using his head for support/balance as you can see in the pic below
Shooter had the compression bandage on for three days and then the vet had us leave it uncovered. We were lucky as he never licked. Many on here will use a t-shirt after the bandage is removed to keep them frombothering the incision until the staples/stitches come out.
He is looking great. He might be hesitant to pee due to learning a new way to balance, but he’ll figure it out. I would just keep an eye on him.

Hi, glad Cooper is doing so well. He looks great. My dog Charlie is about a week down the line after having is back left leg amputated. Unfortunately he has had to have a cone on for the duration and it won’t be off until Thursday when he gets his stitches removed – I guess it’s easier for them to lick their legs than their shoulder. The vet didn’t even consider leaving a bandage on him as he said he would heal quicker if there was no covering. Charlie also didn’t poop for 2 days – he was eating and peeing fine but nothing else. Was getting a bit worried until suddenly 2 days later he went for the first time. Think it was just the anaesthetic that had clogged his system up a bit. I’m sure Cooper will be fine – he looks good and at least he can go outside and lie in the grass. which is good. As Charlie’s leg is not covered the vet said we cannot have him outside except to go to the loo to make sure of no fly strike from the flies that stay in the grass. They didn’t want anything to possibly cause him infection. Roll on Thursday for me, I can’t wait. No cone, no stitches and my little Charlie Boo can go outside again. Hope Cooper keeps going from strength to strength.
